UEFA has introduced five new player's award. This was voted by member of the media,and leading coaches and it would be present in Monaco in August 2017.
This was aimed at recognizing top performers in UEFA club competitions each season. This was announced in the early hours of today.
The following would be awarded during the UEFA Champions League group stage draw on the 24th of August 2017:
- Goalkeeper of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League season
- Defender of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League season
- Midfielder of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League season
- Attacker of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League season
While on the 25th of August 2017, the following award would presented during the UEFA Europa League Group stage draw:
- UEFA Europa League Player of the 2016/17 season
